I’m happy that you found our site and hope you feel right at home. Thank you for investing time in me, my fitness community, and the content that I love that share.
It means the world to all of us at Fit Thrive.
I fell in love with fitness at a young age— I just didn’t know it yet. In the Colorado Rockies from sun up to sun down I would scale boulders, brush under tree branches, and splash in ponds filled with tadpoles. Being on the go was my mantra and I reluctantly wound down from my busy day to pick through my dinner before being hustled off to bed.
My passion for movement carried into my teens, but I never grew to appreciate the relationship between eating well and playing hard. I figured if I played hard enough food didn’t matter. I could eat whatever I wanted.
As I entered college I began slowing down. I spent more time seated and less time bustling around. My early parenting years proved the most challenging for me when it came to staying fit and healthy. The bad eating habits I adopted as a teen carried with me and I began experiencing the effects of poor nutrition.
By my second pregnancy I threw all caution to the wind and ate like there was no tomorrow. I ate fast food twice a day, treated myself to lush desserts, and soon found myself in and out of the hospital with high-risk pregnancy symptoms.
I was put on bed rest and wasn’t able to exercise for a good duration of my pregnancy. Aside from chasing around my adorable little girl, movement became a thing of the past.
My son was born a month early and had a short stay in the NICU. It was one of the toughest moments I’ve faced as a parent, and at the time I didn’t associate my pregnancy complication with my lifestyle. I figured I was young and healthy, so my body just didn’t like carrying babies.
I left the hospital weighing 50 pounds over my starting weight and kept that weight for a long time. I was too embarrassed to go the gym and decided it was better to hide out in my apartment than to address my unhappiness.
It took me nearly three years to get back into the gym, but I have never looked back a day since. My start was slow. Painfully slow.
I dredged through workout classes at my local YMCA, often dipping out 20 minutes in due to exhausting and muscle soreness.
But I stayed the course. Soon I was showing up to get a space at the front of the class and began chatting with the instructors about their careers.
After several months I ventured back out into the weight room for the first time since college. I felt like a brand new baby duckling trying to navigate the waters.
I didn’t know my way around the gym, so I haphazardly used equipment that looked familiar. My workouts had no structures, but I stayed the course.
Once I dug my heels in I began reading everything I could about fitness and eating well. I bought stacks of books and magazines to serve as guides toward my goal of being in the best shape of my life by the time I was 30.
This lead me to a short stint on the figure competitor stage, a couple trips to the powerlifting platform, and on the most incredible fitness adventure I could ever imagine.
Fitness has changed my life, and I know it can change your life, too. I wake up everyday energized and ready to take on the world. I know through fitness I can beat the worst days, feel at my best all the time, and challenge my body in ways that ignite me.
